Other Presidential Candidates Release Statements About Duterte's Rape Joke

[Context: A video of Duterte making a joke about the rape of an Australian woman circulated online. The video was taken during a campaign by the presidential candidate at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City on April 12. The name of the Australian woman is Jacqueline Hamill. She was among the five hostages killed during a hostage-taking incident at a prison facility in Davao City in 1989. Read more about the incident here.]

Here's a transcript of Duterte's joke: "Nirape nila lahat ng mga babae so 'yung unang asolte, kasi nagretreat sila, naiwan yung ginawa nilang cover, ang isa doon yung layminister na Australyana. Tsk, problema na ito. Pag labas, edi binalot. Tiningnan ko yung mukha, 'tangina parang artista sa America na maganda. Putangina, sayang ito. Ang nagpasok sa isip ko, nirape nila, pinagpilahan nila doon. Nagalit ako kasi nirape, oo isa rin 'yun . Pero napakaganda, dapat ang mayor muna ang mauna. Sayang." [Source: Rappler]

As of this writing, three of Duterte's rivals in the upcoming elections have released statements about the Davao City Mayor's joke. Roxas said that anyone who laughs about assaults on women should never be elected into power. Poe called the joke distasteful and unacceptable. Binay called Duterte a crazy maniac. Santiago is yet to make a statement about the matter.
Below are Roxas, Poe, and Binay's statements as posted on their official Facebook pages:

Mar Roxas: "Seryosong problema ang rape. Anyone who laughs at the ultimate assault on the dignity of women should not be allowed to wield power. Ang babae ay may karapatan, hindi pinaglalaruan. Hindi ito katatawanan, kahayupan ito."

Grace Poe: "As a woman, I take offense at the statement made by another Presidential candidate about rape. It is distasteful and unacceptable, and reflects the candidate's disrespect for women. No human being deserves to be raped and abused. Rape is a crime and no laughing matter. We should all be outraged at abuses committed against women. While some may seem impressed with the nonchalance and tough talking stance as portrayed by the candidate himself, he should be reminded that at all times, women, men and the LGBT alike should be treated with dignity and respect. Join me in my stand against abuse."

Jejomar Binay: "Hindi nakakatawa ang rape at murder ng isang babae. Mister Duterte, wala ka bang ina? Wala ka bang anak na babae? Your statement is simply revolting. Nothing can justify such callous remarks. Nanghinayang ka na hindi mo na-rape ang Australian lay minister. Pinagyabang mo na minolestya mo ang inyong kasambahay. You are a crazy maniac who doesn't respect women and doesn't deserve to be president."
