Bloody Crayons chronicles the story of nine friends who visit a remote island for a project. What they expected to be a fun and enjoyable trip quickly turned into a nightmare when a masked man started killing them off one by one.
Aside for Elmo Magalona and Janella Salvador, the movie also stars Sofia Andres, Maris Racal, Empoy Marquez, Ronnie Alonte, Diego Loyzaga, Jane Oineza, and Yves Flores. It was directed by Topel Lee, the same director behind the films Dilim, Ouija, My Kuya's Wedding, Shake Rattle and Roll, Sundo, Wapakman, White House, Amorosa, and Basement. Lee also dabbles in directing television programs. His small screen credits include La Vendetta, Kamandag, My Only Love, Gagambino, Obra, Dear Friend, and Ang Babaeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang.
Bloody Crayons has been in development since 2015 when Star Cinema picked up the movie rights for the book upon which the movie was based. The book was written by Josh Argonza and it was originally published in the website Wattpad. Wattpad is an online storytelling community where anyone can post their stories and literary works.
The movie adaptation was supposed to be released in 2016 but the release date had to be moved because of several changes in the script and cast. Production and shooting finally started in the second quarter of 2017 after the final casting of Magalona and Salvador.
A teaser trailer for Bloody Crayons was released by Star Cinema on June 16. Fans of Elmo and Janella often refer to the two as ElNella.
