Demetrious Johnson: "Team Lakay Fighters Are Phenomenal Role Models And Great Ambassadors Of The Sport"

Several days after his scrap in Tokyo last Saturday (October 12) with Danny Kingad, Demetrious Johnson took time on social media to thank Kingad as well as give props to Team Lakay, the team/gym under whose banner Kingad fights.

Johnson posted on Instagram:
"Want to take the time to thank Danny Kingad for the awesome match. It was a pleasure and honor to share the cage with you, keep your head high. Team Lakay are phenomenal role models and great ambassadors for the sport of mixed martial arts. Wish the team nothing but the best."

Johnson dominated Kingad for three whole rounds to win the One Championship Flyweight Grand Prix. With the victory, Johnson has set himself up as the number one contender for the One Championship flyweight belt currently held by Adriano Moraes of Brazil. The organization is yet to officially announce when and where the two champions will square off.

Kingad is one of four Team Lakay fighters who saw action in Tokyo. Only one of them came away with a victory. Lito Adiwang broke Senzo Ikeda's arm to emerge with a TKO win. Kevin Belingon was submitted by long-time nemesis Bibiano Fernandez. And Honorio Banario was submitted in the first minute of the first round by Shinya Aoki.
